Vision At All
02:52
|
|||
Everything we said and did was lost under the weight of all I felt
Every time I saw your eyes, they were lost in the same way as mine
The moment that I touched your face was greater than the world, the way I saw
And what may have been our last embrace may have been the end of vision at all

Geography/Anatomy
04:33
|
|||
Let's sit down and talk about
Every little thing we ever did
We'll take our pens and map it out
Geography of what we live
And the first words out of my mouth will be how obvious it is to me that
This is real and this is good, yeah this is real and this is good and
The first words out of your mouth I hope will teach me what I used to know that
Sometimes these things can work out yeah, sometimes these things can work out
Then we'll stay down and talk about
What this means, what we should do
We'll take our hearts and write them down
Anatomy of me and you
And the first words out of my mouth will be how obvious it is to me that
This is real and this is good, yeah this is real and this is good and
The first words out of your mouth I hope will teach me what I used to know that
Sometimes these things can work out yeah, sometimes these things can work out

A Kitchen Exorcism
04:21
|
|||
One foot out the door, you asked for something more than you thought we could be
Second step right out, forward motion, I said you would never leave
Saw you take the third, crumbled all my words into a paper ball
The fourth and final blow, realized you could go and I could lose it all
And finally it burned
From exposure to the sun
That came in through my window
And said you wouldn't run
But I still couldn't shake
So I wrote my words again, pencil then in pen for the ones I really meant
Transferred them to type, added some you'd like and then laughed at the end
Faded back to flat, in all my humor lacking much to lift my head
But rose up from my bed, drank some coffee, ate up the last of the bread
And finally it burned
Illuminated like the sun
That came in through my window
You said you wouldn't run
And the sun agreed
Forced it out of me
A kitchen exorcism
Yeah, I finally believed

Foundations
04:25
|
|||
We used to write letter upon letter
Stacking up the alphabet
Constructed our own woodblock tower
Slowly removed each piece
I don't know much about construction
But I swear it won't take the wind
And if we don't build support beams for that dream
It'll huff and puff our house away
I knew you better
You knew me better
I knew me better
Let's renew us better
I think of you from time to time
Wonder what you're building now
Can't seem to find the words to write
It seems that I have used them up
Wasted them on ex-girlfriends and half-friends
Tore them up - they blew away
I can only hope that they'll land and make plants
Somewhere near where you are now
I knew you better
You knew me better
I knew me better
Let's renew us better

Laughter Over Crosswords
04:15
|
|||
Sleep well for me, and I will for you
It's always been the best I could do
When it gets cold I'll meet you there
And we'll embrace in winter air
And every little moment is made better
Laughter over crosswords, extreme weather
Phone calls across the midwest, when crisis hits
I'll return to Oklahoma, and we'll just exist
Sing to my songs, I'll sing to you
Talk over tea, a table for two
And when it gets warm, I'll meet you there
We'll live like birds in summer air
And every little moment is made better
Laughter over crosswords, extreme weather
Phone calls across the midwest, when crisis hits
I'll return to where we grew up, and we'll just exist

Honest Like An Arrow
05:50
|
|||
Let's talk it out, and everything won't be okay
Honesty has always been my fatal flaw
I'll point it straight, and shoot it true through you
The moment's gone
Just because it hit
If I could tell you wrong from right, I wouldn't be in this mess
I'll look at you, you look at me, and not a word
A pregnant pause, intake of breath, a quiet sigh
I'll take my own and breathe it into you
The moment's gone
Just because it hit
If I could tell you wrong from right, I wouldn't be in this mess
If we choose this life we won't find home
Or a greater thing than what we've known
We'll just close our eyes, blindfold our bones
In the afterlife we'll be alone

Luminescence
03:38
|
|||
When I took my first walk in your eyes
The ground shook, and to my surprise
It looked like you felt it to
And I wonder if somehow we knew
When we first met under the moon
The stars burst and spread all their luminescense
over every word
And I know that that's when we heard
it
When I held your body against mine
I felt no presence in time
Just held breath and the beat of your heart
And that's when I felt mine start

Your Live-In Boyfriend
02:47
|
|||
You turned around, everything changed
You shook my hand, worlds rearranged
Flashed a smile, exchanged names
I put us in picture frames
Up on the wall of the new house
That we'll buy when we get out
Of the college town where we first met
And you showed me what perfect meant
Let's forget your live-in boyfriend, put your hand in mine
We'll forget the past and future of our former lives
In two words, you shot me down
I cast my eyes back to the ground
But I don't think you even knew
The world I made for me and you
In fact I'd guess you thought it too,
pushed it aside,
didn't think it through.
You found your one
He wasn't me
But if you ask I'll help you see
A better life, one based in faith
In something more
So let's forget your live-in boyfriend, put your hand in mine
We'll forget the past and future of our former lives

Islands
03:15
|
|||
I said it once, it was enough: you knew me
Saw through my clothes, and through my skin, right through me
Into my bones, deeper marrow, and truly
I felt my lack, picked up that slack and started tuning
My voice for you
My choice in view
Set course for one of two
Islands drifting apart despite the part of them connected at the bottom of the sea
In my room laundry strewn I'll clean up
Hardwood floors closed paint chipped doors we meet up
Explain the shapes the ceiling takes we make up
A meaning for it all before I shake up
My voice for you
My choice in view
Set course for one of two
Islands drifting apart despite the part of them connected at the bottom of the sea

Don't Let It Ring
04:57
|
|||
If I call you up, will you call me back?
Can we forget all the things we lack?
If I call you up, will you call me out
or free me of all of this doubt?
If I call you up, will you call me back
and say that all your bags are packed?
If I call you up, will you call me out,
say my loneliness travels no route?
Say, "If I was you I'd make a plan
to set a fire to all my plans,
write my name on a plastic cup,
fill it with light,
and drink it up."
If I call you up, will you let it ring?
Keep organizing all your things?
If I call you up, will you let me down
easy please? What's lost isn't found.
Say, "If I was you I'd make a plan
to set a fire to all my plans,
write my name on a plastic cup,
fill it with light,
and drink it up."
